NEW FULL-WIDTH BAR TEMPLE AND ELECTRONIC SELVEDGE CUTTER

View of full-width bar temple, independent of reeded width, on a rapier weaving machineIn the case of fabrics that are susceptible to temple marks, will not tolerate a distortion of the pick, have a very high pick density or where the warp consists of yarns with a low tensile strength, it is possible to utilize an integrated full-width bar temple that is independent of the reeded width also in the rapier weaving machine.

The lower section of the full-width temple is essentially a profiled piece fastened to the profiled cross member of the machine across its entire width. This gives the complete temple a high degree of stability. The profile in the lower section is engineered in such a way that it can be fitted with the upper section of the full-width temple, or it can be converted very quickly and easily to a normal type temple. The new design of the full-width bar temple provides more contact with the fabric and allows width changes up to 400 mm without changing any parts.

In association with the above, an electronically-controlled selvedge cutter has been developed and deployed on the rapier weaving machine, as used on the air jet machine since 1995.

Electronic selvedge cutter in conjunction with swivel templeWhen changing over from operating with the full-width temple to the normal type of temple with cylinders, the same type of cutter can be easily set to the optimum cutting position close to the fell of the cloth without necessitating a large-scale conversion. Furthermore, this new cutter replaces the so-called ”Svenson cutter“ and thus enables the conversion to be quickly carried out when changing from leno to tucked selvedges.

In order to ensure compatibility with other component parts of the weaving machine, the same stepping motor is used as for other applications on the machine.

The speed of the motor is appropriately adjusted to avoid unnecessary stepping procedures and is constructed in such a way that also coarse yarns are securely cut.A definite advantage of the entire device is derived from the fact that it reduces the time required during a style change. In contrast to the previous type of full-width temple that had to be replaced and necessitated resetting, the new type outlined remains in the machine and does not require resetting. Changing over from this new type of full-width temple to a normal type of temple with cylinders requires just about half an hour. Thus the weaver is given the possibility to quickly and accurately adjust to different fabric contractions from one style to another.
