MODERN COMMUNICATIONS AT DORNIER

DORNIER-Communications via Internet

In order to secure customer services in the future and keep costs down for both sides, the lines of communication between the supplier and the customer must be made as efficient as possible. Modern means of communication such as the Internet, e-mail, EDI, direct communication via modem and on-line communication via WAN (Wide Area Network) have been developed with this necessity in mind.

DORNIER offers these possibilities, giving its customers a free choice in the selection of the specific communication technology they would like to use when contacting us.

A prerequisite to setting up secure lines of communication is, however, that the supplier and the customer agree on the type of system to be used and also that legal requirements are fulfilled. By using the communication systems outlined, all kinds of information can be inexpensively transmitted. Messages can be prepared off line with no communication costs, regardless of how long document preparation takes. Only during the actual document transmission communication costs are incurred. The messages received are stored in the computer, rendering the filing of paper documents superfluous.

The classic methods of transmitting information are dependent on unsecured regional public telephone networks. These often lead to communication errors through line distortions. The new media on the other hand operate on their own exclusive networks. At this time, these are the safest and most efficient lines of communication. An additional advantage of these new forms of communication is that they are not dependent on time schedules. The recipient can be reached at any time of day or night, also on weekends and holidays, independently of time zones and local circumstances.

Orders for spare parts can now be placed using the more cost effective methods of communication via the Internet, in conjunction with the Electronic Parts Order System, EPOS, outlined in the Insider No. 6 issue.
